Porfidi International: an operations network for the extraction and the production of all types of porphyry products. Steinex, part of Porfidi International group, manufactures splitting machines for every type of natural stone, and Diamex produces diamond carbon tools.
Porfidi International's quarries are located in three different production sites: in Trentino (Italy) where we extract the red porphyry Camparta and the mixed grey from our "Montechiara" quarry. In Patagonia (Puerto Madryn - Argentine) we produce different types of stratified porphyry and blocks of Stardust grey, while in Mexico (San Luis de la Paz – Guanajuato) we extract the so called "selected red".

31st March 2006: Brazil: From block supplier to slab producer: One could almost be envious: Whereas Europe is hoping for an upturn, Brazil’s natural stone industry is in full swing. The producers and processors in the world’s fifth largest country have every reason for optimism. A new quarry is opened every week and there are already well over 1,000 different materials. Brazil already holds fifth place in the world as block supplier and eight place for rough slabs and finished products. The total turnover of the Brazilian stone industry is estimated at 2.8 billion US dollars...more

31st March 2006: Stone in material mixes: New design possibilities for natural stone: Combining natural stone with other materials results in many new design possibilities. The most suitable mix materials include metal, wood and glass. Although many users and architects are looking for new ideas on the use of natural stone, only a few suppliers have utilized the potential offered by material mixes until now...more
31st March 2006: Stone finishes: Stone lives through its haptic. Customers not only want to see a stone, but also touch it – important to know when it comes to marketing finishes: Whether a stone appears hard or soft is not just a question of petrography. Marble can feel hard, granite silky matt – depending on how the surface has been finished. Almost anything is possible. Coarsely honed or jet-blasted, highly polished or roughened with a microfine finish by a laser beam. The decisive factor is what the stone is to be used for and the visual impact it is to create...more
9th March 2006: Finland - Stone quarrying booming: Finland extracted one third more natural stone in 2004 than in the previous year to reach some 830,000 t, which puts Finland at the top of the league of Scandinavian countries. According to the Finnish Natural Stone Association, four fifths of the material extracted is granite and the rest is mainly steatite. The main export country is Germany (value in 2004: almost 16 million €), followed by China (13 million €), Italy (approx. 9 million €) and Sweden (approx. 8 million €)...more
9th March 2006: Sweden - Rising exports: Sweden has extracted between 300,000 and 400,000 t of natural stone a year in the past ten years – with a slightly rising tendency (Germany by comparison: 650,000 to 700,000 t). A large part of this stone is exported in the form of rough blocks and rough slabs...more
9th March 2006: Norway - China a growing market: The extraction of natural stone (mainly Labrador) in Norway reached new records in 2002 and 2003 with 550,000 t each year. The production of rough stone has risen continuously since the start of the nineties. As in Sweden and Finland, the largest part of the production is exported in the form of raw materials. These exports were 326,000 t and 348,000 t respectively in 2002 and 2003, which are also new records...more
